Sometimes you get egos-not so on this show. We had a meeting beforehand where Carruthers and Darling called us all in so the guys playing the heroes could meet the standup comics playing the villains. Oh boy, did we have girls on that show! (laughs) it was a very easy shoot, a wonderful experience for everyone. When I went to college, my mother threw them in the trash. I had a comic book collection that filled two drawers in my bedroom. I always liked the Green Lantern but I was a fan of all of them. It was like an adult going out on Halloween. How did you feel dressing like a superhero? When he shoots the ring, I’d arch my back and aim forwards. When we did the shoots, I was actually mimicking the comic book pages. I’d read them as a child but didn’t remember. I went to comic book stores and bought every Green Lantern comic I could find. Then they said “You’re going to be the Green Lantern.” ![]() I said “What role?” They said they’d let me know-they just wanted to see how we handled comedy. They called me back and said I got the role. But it was helpful to me because I knew what they were looking for-very over the top. The sides I was given to read were from The Carol Burnett Show. So I went in and read and it was very interesting how they had us read. I didn’t realize at the time that my best friend’s sister was the assistant casting director. ![]() Finally my new manager called and said she set up a private audition for me with them. ![]() Back then cattle calls were a waste of time. The audition was held at Hanna-Barbera, in their parking lot.
